Reviews of the Top Guides on Starting a Catering Business

The catering industry has a number of experts who have written guides that advise newcomers on how to go about starting a catering business.

We did a review of three popular startup guides that offer insights into the catering business as well as tips and trade secrets to help beginners get started and succeed.

Our Recommendation – Above all we recommend Catering Business Secrets due to the fact that it is so comprehensive in covering all aspects of this fast growing industry. It offers beginners a clear path to success and also contains a lot of information that would benefit even experienced caterers.

First Choice - Catering Business Secrets

Catering Business SecretsCatering Business Secrets has been put together by industry veteran Bruce Kocher. Drawing on his years of experience in the catering business as well as volumes of material that he wrote in the past for a training school, he has recently launched what I feel is the best starting a catering business guide currently available on the market.

Kocher's story is quite unique so you should definitely read through his web page completely to find out what is possible in this industry.

Catering Business Secrets gets straight to the point about getting set up, analyzing opportunities within the market, food preparation, equipment, event management, sales and marketing and more.

This guide is strong on both the ‘food’ side of catering and the ‘business’ side. It offers you the kind of insider information that you need if you want to skip the learning curve and fast track your way to the mindset of an experienced caterer.

The members area is very well organized and includes a lot of free bonuses. Kocher has included some audio interviews with a few of his friends who are well known as 'super caterers'. In these lengthy discussions he really grills them on the steps that they have taken that have led to their success.

Another bonus that I found to be really useful was the series of nine video modules that teach you how to market your catering business on the Internet.

New things seem to be added to the members area all the time. I just logged in and found that a sample catering contract has also been added.

Also Reviewed - The Starting a Catering Business Start-Up Guide Kit

Catering Business Start-Up Guide KitThe Starting a Catering Business Start-Up Guide Kit is kind of a classic when it comes to catering guides as it has been around for at least six or seven years. However I get the feeling that most of the information is still relevant and up to date.

It is fairly comprehensive in providing beginners with an overview of the industry and teaching them everything that they need to know to get started.

The book is set out as a kind of action plan. It offers checklists for all aspects of organizing an event. These are invaluable to you if you are starting a catering business as you will have to think about every little detail to pull off a successful event.

Buyers also get a free set of catering business forms, standard letters and a complete business plan sample.

Also Reviewed - Your Catering Success

YourCateringSuccess.com also strives to offer a complete solution for those wanting to start a catering business. However, while this guide does deliver significant value I felt that the contents at the present time do not justify the price.

Your Catering Success is a membership site run by an experienced caterer. Members pay an initial fee to join and members that join now do not have to pay any monthly fees.

The highlights of membership include a section on business forms with video guidance on how to use each of the forms.

I also found the resources section to be very thorough. Through the site I found suppliers, companies that generate leads for caterers, companies that build websites specifically for caterers and numerous other resources that I would never have otherwise found.

Membership with this site can save you time if you are just starting out as it pulls everything that you need together in one place.

However I felt that it is just not as packed with ‘profit potential’ compared to the other two products that I did reviews of. Some of the written content is pretty weak and some of the site features such as the forum are redundant as the site lacks the membership to support it.

This is definitely one to watch for the future and it will be interesting to see how the site and it's community grow and develop.
