Catering Business Logo Design

One of the first things that you will need to do as you begin planning your catering business is to think about what kind of brand you want to develop. A key part of your branding strategy will be your logo design which will act as the public face for your brand and everything that your brand stands for. In this article we look at why a catering business logo is so important. We also consider some of the design elements that you may consider when you communicate with your graphic designer.

The Importance of a Business Logo

A logo is essential to your catering business. It will allow you to appear professional, differentiate your business from other caterers and help you to make a good first impression with customers.

With a logo enhancing your brand you will, in the long term, benefit from growing customer recognition and trust. This will make your services easier to sell and should allow you to eventually command premium prices in the market.

Typical Catering Logos

So what makes up a good catering business logo? Most logos include some kind of image or symbol in combination with your company name. Popular images that have been used by catering firms include waiters, food, plates, forks and candles. Images like these immediately conjure up an image in the viewers mind and they can guess what your business is about.

This approach can leave you with a logo that is a little ‘clichéd’ though. And if the image is too strict in defining what your catering business does then it won’t leave you much room to grow or change direction in the future if you want to.

If you are unsure about the niches that you will be targeting then a more abstract logo could serve your company better as a blank slate for you to create whatever type of catering business you like upon.

Originality

Don’t get too caught up with what your competitors have done with their logos and never try to imitate them.  Go for originality and if you really have to seek inspiration from other business logos then you should borrow ideas from other industries rather than from other caterers.

Communicating with your Logo Designer

You should make sure that you give your designer as much information as you can about your customers, the events that you cater to and the kind of food and service that you specialize in. They will then be able to tailor make something that is customized to your needs.

When you brief your designer you should let him or her know all of the ways that you intend to use the logo design.  It is likely that you will need a logo that can be scaled in size to suit everything from business cards and menus right up to vehicle advertising and signage.

Ensure that your logo designer provides you with a logo that looks good in black and white for when you photocopy or fax a letterhead.

It is also important that your logo is suited to a white or black background as serving staff usually wear white or black and you may wish to have logos embroidered onto their uniforms in the future.

A great logo design will go a long way towards helping your company achieve success in the catering business. Having to change a logo in the future is a huge effort and very expensive so you should make sure that you get it right the first time. Start your new venture off the right way with a great catering business logo design!
